What a weekend!

We tackled the massive task of installing our wooden flooring in our living and dining room this weekend and it was by far the biggest and most time consuming home DIY job we've done. We started ripping out the carpets on Saturday morning which sounds simple enough but you have to get out all the nails and all the rest before cleaning the floor and getting it ready. My in-laws arrived late morning and got started straight away, my mother in-law even got stuck in. It took us the whole weekend and the results are even better than we could have ever imagined but I think if I knew before hand what a huge job it would be I wouldn't have done it ourselves. All the moving of the furniture, the mess from the cutting of the boards, the exhaustion and the muscle stiffness was too much! Every muscle in my body was sore this morning, even my fingers!

"The" room

As I said I'd post a pic of the damn green room. I couldn't stand it anymore so I had it painted over this morning (I refused to do all that over again). N loved the green and couldn't understand why I wanted to change it. Every time I went in there I felt uncomfortable, claustrophobic and it reminded me of mint ice cream (not that thats a bad thing). I think if we had white furniture in there it would have looked better with the green.

And now! Much better! (its a bad pic but I swear it really does look lovely)

Last night we collected our photo book and CD's from the photographer. Tomorrow I'll start with brief posts of the wedding, under the following titles:
  • Getting read
  • Ceremony
  • Formal portraits
  • Decor
  • Reception

Spoilt for choice

Our second bedroom is currently home to the treadmill, an old chest of drawers, our huge suit cases and a ton of wedding stuff. I'm gradually sorting it all out but it takes time. I don't know what to do with all the wedding things, there's candles, favour boxes, glass jars, paper, packets, craft supplies, you name it its there in boxes. I'll somehow have to find something to do with it. The whole point of it is to sort the room out, preferably for the baby but if not then for an office-type room.

We've already ordered a dark mahogany six draw chest of drawers, which will work equally well for either a baby's room or an office (we have dark mahogany furniture throughout the house and we don't plan on changing it). So the next step is to paint. I've wanted to paint this room for a while now as its currently white and a bit stark. I've seen so many pictures of gorgeously serene rooms painted in a light sage / mint kind of colour, so that's what we're going with.

I went to the hardware store to get some of those paint sample card thingies (whatever they're called) to check which colour we'd want. Its ridiculous, there's far too much of a variety, so I just took a bunch and hoped for the best.

We eventually chose the bottom colour called Grecian Garland, not too bright and not too white. And its a good colour for either a boy or a girl ..... or an office-type room.

I can't wait to get started, not sure though when that may be!
